KP Projects Presents: Scott Hove "Last Ticket For the Beauty Train"
Creator of the Viral akelan Exhibit Explores the Decadence And Excess of 2017 America In Multi-Gallery Installation and Art Showcase
KP Projects s proud to announce the latest sculptural and installation work by cott Hov. A duo of sculptural series and installations cohesively entitled ast Ticket for the Beauty Trai, the exhibition will consist of two parts in separate locations with a fully-immersive, walkthrough installation at the gallery’s Chinatown pop up space, and a multi-media art showcase at the permanent gallery location on La Brea in Los Angeles, featuring a combined total of nearly 30 new pieces.
This new series of sculptures and installations examines what Hove terms “the failures of the Illuminati,” the institutions that have both controlled us but also defined our way of life and their inevitable collapse of control. As an attempt to reconcile the forces of light and dark, which are in increasingly perilous opposition, ast Ticket for the Beauty Train addresses deeply political and socially conscious messages under the guise of sugar-coated acrylic ‘frosting’ and decorative piping.
Visually as magical and confectionary as ever, Hove also questions how these underlying thematic elements will be viewed in today’s political and economic environment. Metaphorically, the excess within the sweetly seductive, frosting-covered environments alludes to the desire-driven consumer culture at the core of American consciousness. “In a time of mass liquidation of traditional values and knowledge, what does it mean to create an object of value? How can it be considered responsible to pursue joy and beauty when the pop standard is to express disgust? What is our destination when the standard bearers of our Western civilization are being undermined by America's new ruling oligarch class, and planetary stewardship is cast to the cold winds of quarterly investment returns?” – Scott Hove
Hove’s work has garnered international acclaim, with his previous large-scale cake maze project, Cakelan, generating numerous features in outlets as diverse as ic, mithsonian agazin, he Telegrap, aste agazin, he Daily Mai, olling Stone Italia and many more. Hove’s meticulously crafted work explores “our notions of comfort, pleasure, celebration and their dark counterparts in the form of carefully crafted artificial cakes.” He was invited by anksy to participate in the 2015 ismaland theme park, and his work has even attracted the attention of the fashion world. In 2014, he decorated a dressing room at the omme des Garçons flagship store in Beijing. More recently, he co-designed their 2017 fall men's line, which included developing four designs cast in silicone to look like one his frosting pieces, and decorated with Swarovski crystals.
The art showcase will feature the next evolution of akelan, imbued with the new sense of heaviness in the air, premiering a new painting and nearly a dozen sculptures. The infinity room themed installation in Chinatown will feature a new, fully-immersive walkthrough experience featuring decadent chandelier sculptures, and a groundbreaking infinity mirror chamber that will have timed entry.

About Scott Hove
Scott Hove’s ongoing series of lush 'Cakeland' installations and sculptures describe an allegorical paradise, in the process of re-integrating light and dark, from a false dualism to a true whole. Using an emotionally compelling narrative with delicious looking and fear provoking materials and imagery, the viewer is at once seduced by the promise of 'heaven' while being reminded by the presence of an imminent 'hell.’ Scott lives and works in Los Angeles.
